A Group from Honfleur Visits Burlington
On October 7-14, 2017, a group of twelve from Honfleur visited Burlington. Led by Mayor Lamarre, it included members of the Comité de jumelage.
The Mayor’s Reception
The mayor welcomed the visitors at the Burlington Community Boathouse. Honorary Consul of France in Vermont Ernie Pomerleau presented Mayor Lamarre with a replica of the Don de Dieu, the ship on which Champlain had sailed in 1609, while Mayor Lamarre presented the Burlingtonians with a large flag.
For the next few days, the group toured sites in the Burlington area. The program included an opening reception hosted by the president of Champlain College; a visit to the Ethan Allen Homestead; an “Edible History of Burlington” tour; a reception hosted by the Alliance Française of Lake Champlain Region; a visit to Lake Champlain Maritime Museum and a boat tour in the lake; a visit to the ECHO Science Center; a tour of the Intervale Center and Community Farm; a visit to and lecture at Saint Michael’s College; a tour of the Shelburne Museum and Shelburne Farms; a cocktail reception at the Inn; a visit to the Land & Local art exhibit in the Coach Barn; and a visit to the Burlington Farmers Market in City Hall Park.
